Los Desaparecidos is the winner of Babes With Blades’ second international playwriting competition Joining Sword & Pen.  This year's theme was "Duelo de Mujeres" (The Duel of Women), which can be seen HERE. We requested scripts for production that are inspired by the painting. In order for a script to qualify for the competition, the fight depicted in that painting HAD TO APPEAR within the script. We've taken some liberties in the rendering above and included our actresses.

Set in 16th-century Spain, Los Desaparecidos explores
the impact of family ties, societal pressures, and unexpected love
on the lives of two sisters: Diana Garcia Diaz and Isabel Garcia Reyes de la Barrera. Expect clandestine trysts, plots and counterplots, blackmail - and dazzling swordplay!

The critics said...

"...a delightfully complex plot, full of cunning plans, daring rescues and hair-raising fights...the production was an almost criminally enjoyable diversion..." - Zev Valancy, CENTERSTAGE

"With clever, witty dialogue and vigorous swordplay that includes rapiers, knives, daggers and shields, the play makes for a thoroughly enjoyable good time." - Elena Ferrarin, DAILY HERALD

"Lhota's wonderfully overheated story of intrigue and forbidden love contains so many complicated relationships and surprising plot twists it feels like an English-language version of a telenovela.... Stephanie Repin and Meghan M. Martinez are terrific as the two sisters at the center of this exciting tale." - Jack Helbig, CHICAGO READER

"...the spectacle keeps the audience entertained in every moment. It is impossible to be bored before the fights' explosive presence, shouts and vociferations, races and surprises in which tense and critical moments are suddenly turned around by the humor with which the dramatist has seasoned the speeches." - Elio Leturia, HOY
