MISSION

is a diverse ensemble of artists working together to expand opportunities for women in the world of stage combat. By exploring theatrical violence as a storytelling tool and as a means to entertain, educate, and enlighten, we challenge traditional expectations, push personal limitations, and celebrate the historical role of the woman warrior and her modern evolution.

produces theater that showcases the strength, vitality, and proficiency of women in the art of stage combat. We expand the artistic community's perceptions and expectations of which stories are viable for the theatre and which roles are appropriate for women. Through education, performance, networking, and outreach, we raise the awareness of women's capabilities and value as stage combatant, fight choreographers, athletes, and role models within the global community. By creating opportunities for women to explore a wide variety of roles on and off stage, including those traditionally filled by men, we cultivate broader perspectives in current and future generations of theatre professionals and audiences alike.

The women of work together to push our own limits as well as those of the general public. We defy society's limitations of women's roles, including the preconception that strength and power are inappropriate in women. We challenge the traditional definition of femininity and shatter divisive stereotypes, thereby encouraging theater that is not necessarily a gender-specific experience, but a human experience. We maintain an emphasis on working cooperatively rather than competitively in a safe and supportive environment, and we embrace both the discipline and the joy of our craft.

We believe that live theater, more than any other artistic experience, provides the intimacy and immediacy needed to provoke and support social evolution. Through our unique and dynamic medium, we will settle for nothing less than transforming ourselves, our audience, and our world.
